Caroline Morey — the domaine

Caroline Morey is the wife of Pierre-Yves Colin. Her vineyards come from her father Jean-Marc Morey’s domaine, and the wines are made alongside those of PYCM in their new family cellar in Chassagne-Montrachet.

The range is Chassagne to its core, and it is broader than the whites alone: Chassagne-Montrachet in white and red, the Premiers Crus Champs Gains, Chaumées, Les Caillerets and Vergers, Beaune Grèves in both colours, and Santenay, red and white. At the top sit the grands crus — Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet and a parcel of Chassagne’s Montrachet.

The style follows the cellar she shares with her husband: fruit picked early, whole bunches pressed gently, indigenous fermentations, and a restrained hand with new oak. The whites are taut and stony rather than rich, the reds fine-boned and fragrant — wines that read as Chassagne first and as fashion never.
